Review of the day

My, what a frustrating day…

No joy with the tips – nor the Top Pick – but a couple of very nice priced winning mentions.
That’s not what is supposed to happen !

In fairness, I think things conspired against us a little – but all the same…

Aimigayle and Max Bygraves were the first two tips to run and they were unfortunate to come up against a rejuvenated On Trend…
I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later…
On Trend was running off a mark today 21lb lower than the mark he was on 12 months ago – and a stone lower than his last wining mark.
He had shown very little all season – but the application of blinkers seemed to do the trick as he travelled much more sweetly.
I’m sure the huge market confidence in him, was just a coincidence !

Max Bygraves ran a solid enough race to finish third: but Aimigayle was disappointing.
She made mistakes early and whilst she stayed in the race to the back stright on the final circuit, she was beaten soon after that…

It was a slightly different story at Wetherby, where I don’t think it was the opponents that beat Divers, more the way the race unfolded…
There was absolutely no pace – and he just wouldn’t settle.
In fact he was still tanking, when coming through the take up the running at the third last – and went heavily odds on in-running as a consequence.
But within a few strides, he was beaten…
He will come on for the run – and will likely be dropped a couple of pounds as well – and in all probability will win next time out (assuming he gets a proper gallop to sit behind).
Like I say, frustrating…

Back over at Exeter, Top Pick, Crookstown, seemed to bump into one in the shape of handicap debutant, Generous Ransom.
In fairness he did have form in the book to make him look dangerous – but I still thought Crookstown would have enough up his sleeve to hold him off.
These things happen…

As for the Mentions, then Kings Apollo ran well to finish fourth – he could be of interest next time.
Whilst Have you had Yours and Freckle Face, managed to notch up a nice ‘mention’ double…
The former took advantage of an early blunder by favourite Hotgrove Boy, to record quite a comfortable victory; whilst the latter dotted up at Exeter !

The win of Freckle Face was particularly frustrating. As I said this morning, he was a 4/1 shot last night – and couldn’t have been a tip at that price. However he was 13/2 when I issued the write-up – and kept on drifting to an unbelievable 11/1 at the off !
I just hope that one or two of you were on him – BOG !!

So, all in all, one of those days.
Good job we didn’t encounter anything similar last Tuesday, when it really mattered..!!
