Invicta Lake ran really well at Market Rasen this
afternoon and despite not winning, justified my decision to tip him.
He was still travelling as well as anything, approaching
the last but just wasn’t able to find the extra required on the run-in, to
secure a victory…
It was a shame, but I can have no complaints about a 14/1
shot who jumped the last with an even chance of victory…
Things hadn’t gone as well for the Top Pick, Quickpick
Vic, earlier in the afternoon, as Naas.
Rather surprisingly he was held up off the pace – but he
travelled like a dream.
When he loomed up on the outside on the run to the final
flight, it looked a question of how far. However, he emptied in a couple of
strides and was beaten when he decanted Paul Carberry at the last.
He it been a similar story last time out at Leopardstown,
but I put that down to him not staying the 2m2f trip in heavy ground.
After today, it looks like that wasn’t the reason and he
now has questions to answer..
Paul Carberry also managed to fall off Mullaghanoe River
in the next race.
Unlike Quckpick Vic, he did look as if he was going to
win, but he blundered at the second last and Carberry couldn’t stay on
board…
Back over at Market Rasen, Highbury High made it a
profitable day for the mentions with a victory in the handicap chase - though he
was maybe a little lucky to collect as his closest rival made a mess of the
final fence.
Riguez Dancer was again very disappointing in the same
race and illustrated the perils of supporting ‘well handicapped’
horses.
Finally, Snooze ran a decent race in the Leinster
National – but ultimately looked as if he needed the run.
Always in the front rank, he only gave best approaching
the fourth last fence. However he was soon back peddling and finished well
beaten.
He will definitely be of interest next time
out…
