Review of the day

Mollys Affair ran really well this afternoon – as the market suggested she would – but ultimately she wasn’t good enough to collect…

Backed in from the early morning 20/1 to an opening show of 9/1, her SP of just 7/1 gave me some confidence that I’d read the subtle signs correctly – and so it proved…

She raced throughout in second/third place – behind the unfancied leader, Cheap as Chips. However, Cheap as Chips totally belied her 33/1 odds and kept finding from the front – and rounding the home turn, it become apparent that Mollys Affair wasn’t going to reel her in…

Worse than that, it soon become apparent that she was going to struggle to even stay in the frame - and whilst she still had half a chance of finishing third when she fell at the last, it is more likely that she would have finished fourth…

It was a shame really, because she felt like a good spot – and I don’t like it when we get nothing back from those…

It was a better day for a couple of the mentions – though unfortunately, not the best mention of the day, Hidden Horizons…

In fairness, I think it could have been – but she started slowly and made a mistake at the first fence. From that point, she was on the back foot – and although she ran on well close home, she was never any nearer than her finishing position of third.
She is handicapped to win, if upped slightly in trip…

It was down to Martin Cash and More Madness to record the two victories for the mentions…

The former hacked up on his UK debut at Wincanton looking like a totally reformed horse. He’s likely to be hit quite hard by the handicapper for his win.

More Madness was an ultra game winner at Clonmel. I was concerned that he might find one or two a bit too quick over todays trip – but when that one turned out to Mister First, I wasn’t quite so worried !
Mister First has plenty of ability – but he doesn’t have the resolution of More Madness – and ultimately that won him the day, in a close finish…

The rest of the mentions either ran disappointingly - or very disappointingly !
Quaddick Lake, Yellow Ball and Hop In all raced prominently for a while – but then faded.
Big News looked to be going tremendously well at Carlisle - but then stopped to nothing. He clearly has a physical issue.
Whilst it was difficult to work out what was going on with Edmund. He was never travelling particularly well – but stayed on late.
You’d certainly have expected better if you’d back him at 5/4 !

With regards to tomorrow, then it’s likely to be a ‘no tip’ day again…
I did struggle today, trying to study for next week – and keeping an eye on the days events.
There is nothing of particular note running tomorrow – so it seems to make sense to swerve the day.

I’ll confirm first thing in the morning though – as usual.

Also, look out for the next batch of Cheltenham tips, which I will aim to issue later this evening.

Busy times…

TVB.
