No joy today – and it was
difficult to take many positives out of the afternoon…
Beforehand, I felt that Soll
represented our best chance of success – and he was backed accordingly…
7/1 yesterday evening had become
5/1 this morning – and 3/1 at the off.
However, the writing was on the
wall very early, as he just didn’t settle in the race. He attacked and over
jumped most of the fences – and ultimately in a distance chase on heavy ground,
that’s going take its toll…
Sure enough, he was headed soon
after half way and whilst he tried to battle back late on, he ended up well
beaten.
It looked as if he’d had enough
for the season…
Earlier on the card, neither
Theatrebar nor Goohar put up much of a show in the novice handicap hurdle.
In fairness they were speculative
shots at prices – and the first and second in the race did return at 20/1 and
25/ respectively, so there was some logic in my approach !
Somemothersdohavem did no better
in the Imperial Cup – and looked a very awkward ride in the process.
It is back to a watching brief
with him…
The final tip of the day to run
was Master Neo at Chepstow.
And whilst he ran with some credit, he never really looked likely to win.
And whilst he ran with some credit, he never really looked likely to win.
He plugged on in his own time, to
finish a very distant fourth, looking as if he needs an extreme stamina test (or
an even lower handicap mark !).
Minella on Time, provided the one
positive of the day, with pretty comfortable win. Odds of 2/1 weren’t great –
but then again, a winner is a winner (and that’s what the Top Picks are all
about !)
However, neither of the days 2
mentions even managed to complete the course (so compared to them, I guess the
tips didn’t do too badly !).
Arbeo was pulled up not long after half way – he clearly has physical issues: whilst Mauricetheathlete took a crashing fall at the fourth fence (as I feared he might). It was good to see both horse and jockey get up from that one…

So, that was it for the day – and
possibly for the pre-Cheltenham period.
That said, there are a couple of
horses down to run tomorrow that I am interested in (I was thinking of tipping
one of them next week !) so I’ll not commit to ‘no tips’ just yet…
Instead, I’ll send out an email
around 9:00 tomorrow morning, advising whether there will be any action on the
day…
TVB.
