No joy again this afternoon – and
some disappointing performances to boot…
Non more so that
Dancetilmidnight, who despite being well backed once again, showed precious
little in the mares handicap hurdle at Warwick.
Her market rival, Polly Peachum,
also had to bounce back from a disappointing run last time, but whilst
Dancetilmidnight one again didn’t fire, Polly Peachum took the race apart, to
win in effortless fashion.
The saver, Lady Kathleen, didn’t
do much better either, never really featuring in the race…
In fairness, the 2 veterans, Free
World and The Knoxs, did perform a little better – particularly the latter…
In fact, when I watched his race
live, I thought he looked unlucky not to win.
He was hampered by a faller at
the third last - and then crowded for room at the last.
And he was unlucky – but the
winner, Hidden Justice, had a very similar path – and was simply the better of
the pair.
It was shame, as we could have
done with a nice winner…
Free World, travelled well enough
in the handicap chase at Warwick, but lost a few places when the pace quickened
entering the back stright, second time around.
He was playing catch-up from that
point on – and he never looked like reeling in Speed Master, who showed massive
improvement in his first time visor.
That was always a possibility -
and the market clearly expected it. As big as 14/1 pre-race, he was backed in to
5/1 at the off…
There was no success with the
mentions either…
All 4 ran disappointedly at
Haydock, where possibly the most notable event was Kudu Country bouncing back to
form in the hurdle at 3:40…
We were on him last time out, when he was a big disappointment at Newcastle – but it was different story today as he fought back tenaciously to regain the lead in the shadows of the post…

All in all, not the best of days
then...
